I agree. In my 10 years experience inside institutions of education, teachers lack of empathy, bordering on outright hostility toward students, is the probably the biggest source of failure in formal education settings.

Why humans are not naturally nasty and more likely to be kind than cruel..
Culture does not nuture kindness imo, does the education system nuture compassion, hell no, still I've experienced lots of great compassion from teachers. It's more about the individual than the system.
